SOTO STREET Bridge Removal Project, demolished a derelict highway overpass that effectively suffocated a community adjacent to the LA River, and replaced it with one acre of open green space to unite and enrich that community.
The sculpture is inspired by the act of “plowing up” the pavement, slabs of rubble curling off an imaginary plow blade allowing the earth to breath again — a gesture of support for the civic movement to “de-pave ” the river.
